2. Academic Calendar
In the 2013 the academic year begins on September 2. The first semester lasts 17 weeks, from December 30, 2013 till January 19, 2014 and ends with module control. The Christmas holidays last from January 20 till February 2, 2014. The second semester begins on February 3, 2014 and lasts 17 weeks, from June 2 till 22, 2014 and ends with module control. Summer holidays begin on June 30, 2014.

4. General Description of the University
Uman State Pedagogical University was founded in 1930 as the Institute of Social Education. For 80 years the University has established itself as an intellectual center, the center of national culture as the basis of the creative personality of intended teachers. The commitment of its professors has contributed much to the University todays high prestigue.
Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University is a higher state educational institution of the IVth (highest) level of accreditation. In its structure there are four institutions that unite 12 faculties.
The training is provided by 37 departments. Among the teaching staff there are three academics, three members of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, 1 chlen-korespondent of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, 67 doctors, professors, more than 200 PhDs, associate professors.
Training facilities of the University include 5 academic and laboratory buildings, training handicraft workshops, 2 student hostels, an agricultural biological station, a research library, 3 reading rooms for students, faculty and graduate students, 12 computer rooms, 3 phonetic laboratories, 2 student cafeteria, a sports complex.
The scientific infrastructure of the University comprises 5 research institutes, 3 research centers of double subordination (APS, NAS and MES of Ukraine), 20 research laboratories, 7 regional research and training centers, a number of scientific schools; postgraduate training courses that lead to Candidate-s and Doctorate-s degree.
Every year the university hosts nationwide and international conferences.
Scientific research conducted by the University researchers covers a wide range of problems of fundamental and applied nature.
Scientific work covers about two thousand students.
University enjoys successful cooperation with universities in Poland, France, USA, Canada, Germany, Belarus and other countries, the professors of the University are members of international scientific societies, associations and administrative structures.
The socio-cultural structure of the University involves a student club, a sports club, a museum of history of the institution, Bazhan Literary studio, a student theatre, "Pedagogical news" newspaper is published.
Nine art groups have the "national" honorary title.
Among the University athletes there are members of the Olympic and Youth National teams.

The University offers a wide variety of courses of the first (Bachelor-s program) and second (Specialist and Master''s programs) cycle. Uman Pedagogical University also provides post-graduate courses for Candidate-s degree and Doctors degree.

6. General Requirements for Admission
Admission to the University is subject to Admission Rules, developed by the Admissions Committee of Uman State Pedagogical University in accordance with the Conditions of admission to higher educational institutions of Ukraine.

The training is conducted according to the standard Ukrainian multilevel scheme - bachelor, specialist, master.
The training for post-graduate school lasts for 3 years (full-time) and 4 years (part-time). After graduation from the post-graduate school and successful defense the graduate is conferred the Candidate of Science degree / Ph.D. in the chosen field of research.

7. General Registration Procedures
The registration of applicants for training is done by the Examining Board (telephone - (04744) 5-05-08).
Applicants personally submit their applications for admission to the University, which indicate the field of training (for Bachelor''s programmes) or major/specialty (for Specialist-s and Master-s degree) and the kind of training.
An applicant encloses the following:
- a state standard document certifying the acquired educational level, through which the applicant becomes eligible and the supplement, being originals or copies at the applicant-s choice;
- a medical certificate form 086-O or its copy;
- six color photos size 3 x 4 cm.
When an applicant seeks a transfer or readmission a standard academic record (transcript) about unfinished higher education is enclosed.

8. Awarding ECTS
In Pavlo Tychyna Uman Pedagogical University the European Credit Transfer System operates. The transfer of academic achievements of students from other universities is administered according to the procedures and it is based on ECTS documents (Student Application Form, Learning Agreement, Learning Agreement for mobile students, Learning Agreement for work placements – Training Agreement, Transcript of Records) and The Diploma Supplement.

How to get to the Campus
Uman city is almost in the center of Ukraine. The University is located in the town centre It is connected. with other educational institutions of the city by bus routes.
How to get to Uman by railway
The railway station is at a distance of 2,5 km from the University. The University can be reached by bus or taxi. Bus Busfare -2.50 UAH., Taxi – 20 UAH. The trains arrive in Uman from the junction Hristinovka (20km from Uman)
How to get to Uman by coach/bus
Through the network of European highways can enter Ukraine via Kovel, Lutsk, Lviv, Uzhgorod, and others. Then by motorways in 8 - 10 hours you can reach Uman.
How to get to Uman by air
Kyiv international airport Boryspil has flights to the capitals and some major cities around the world: Athens, Warsaw, Vienna, Sofia, Prague, Berlin, Budapest, Brussels, Paris, Moscow and others. The airport is located about 250 km from Uman. Uman can be reached directly by bus or with a transfer in Kyiv and taxi, which can be hired outside the airport. The bus fare is approximately 65-80 UAH and 750 UAH by taxi.
Accommodation and meals
Students living at their place of registration in 2 hostels with rooms for two, three or four students. One hostel is an apartment type with a bathroom and kitchen in each section. The hostels are located compactly in the campus next to academic building number 3 of the University and adjacent to the park area, 200 meters from which lies the world famous Sofievka park. The hostel rent is 150 UAH per month or higher depending on the degree of comfort. The facilities available for students are student cafes, bars in each building. The price of lunch in the student cafe is over 10 UAH.
Health care services and opportunities for students with special needs
In buildings - 1, - 3 there is an infirmary for university students. One can get a wide range of medical services. The first aid is constantly available, regular medical check-ups are conducted.
Insurance and financial support for students
The students who study at the expense of the state and successfully pass the final test or exam, provided they meet the requirements of the appropriate rating, receive a monthly stipend. At present the amount of a standard stipend is 530 UAH, a premium stipend is 590 USD. The students of pedagogical programmes receive an ordinary stipend that is equal to 583 UAH a month or a premium one - that is equal to 643 UAH. For students specializing in Physics and Mathematics an ordinary stipend is 641 UAH 30 kopecks, a premium one is 701 UAH. 30 kopecks.
If necessary, students may qualify for a one time additional allowance money that is equal to a minimum stipend. Students who show outstanding academic performance, and valued high in social work, sports can get an award. The university administers several special scholarship programs - named after outstanding scholars, scholarships of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, of the President of Ukraine, and others.
Division of Student Affairs
The University-s main concern is the students. Through their representatives the students express their opinion in taking decisions by the University administration. In particular, decisions about admittance, expulsion, readmission, transfer, providing accommodation and expulsion of students from the hostel; approval of decisions on campus and accommodation for persons enrolled in the higher educational institution must be approved by the student self-government body.
Conditions for learning
Uman State Pedagogical University is a complex system of educational and production premises where students enjoy favorable conditions for learning. The students have at their disposal 5 educational and laboratory buildings, handicraft workshops, 2 student hostels, 3 reading rooms, 12 computer rooms, 3 language laboratories, two student canteens, a sports complex, a scientific library, and agricultural station.
The traditional areas of international cooperation in-service training of the teaching staff in foreign educational institutions, joint teaching with foreign partners, international conferences, symposia and workshops, membership in international scientific, educational, administrative bodies, associations, fellowships, participation of teachers and students in international programs and funds; highlights and celebrations of the achievements of University internationally, cooperation through the twin cities.
Internationalization of the areas of University activity USPU performs within 29 cooperation agreements with foreign educational institutions of 12 countries that enabled the participation of the teaching staff and students in several international programs. Among the programs implemented at the university in cooperation with partner schools are Interdisciplinary Individual Humanities Studies (IIHS), a joint program of training with European College (Poland) in the field of "European Communication.
The University on the bases of tender was granted the right to provide consultancy services to arrange and conduct research "Standards of Educational General Educational Institution (within the project "Equal Access to Education of High Standards in Ukraine". The study is to develop standards of educational institution to provide equal access of students education and technology of high standards for their implementation. The project is funded by the World Bank.
The Polish cultural-educational center acted as a partner in the project of youth exchange, winning a grant of the Ministry of Culture of Poland of 50 thousand PLN. Every willing student of the major "Ukrainian and Literature and Polish- took part in Summer schools of the Polish language and culture in Poland.
The University focuses on the participation in international competitions of individual projects. Our leading scholars are regularly awarded grants of Fulbright, DAAD, NATO, Queen Jadwiga, etc.
Sports and Recreation Facilities
The University actively promotes a healthy lifestyle among students, organization of physical education, various sports competitions. The following facilities are at their disposal: a gym (32 x 24m), a gym (25 x 10m), a track (50 X 10 m), a tennis gym (12 x 6m), which are positioned in the building #3 and a boxing gym (25 x 10m ) and a fitness room(10 x 6m), which are in hostel number 2. Qualified coaches - trainers facilitate students'' acquisition of appropriate physical fitness, involve students in training sessions of 13 sports. Especially popular among the students is the sections of boxing, volleyball, basketball, football, table tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, wrestling, aikido, track and field athletics, weightlifting and more. Over 3000 students are actively engaged in culture and sports activities. Yearly about 40 competitions among university students and employees who have the ability to engage in sports in their free time. The University has all conditions for providing physical and spiritual development of personality. In the Campus there are three sports complex for soccer, basketball and volleyball, a sports club for leisure time activities, with various sections and a student club, which organizes cultural festivals and events.
The Students Union of Uman Pedagogical University is the largest voluntary organization that joins promising young people with active social position, regardless of citizenship, nationality, political opinion and religious beliefs. The Union manifests and protects the interests, rights and freedoms of the University students.
The priority areas of the Unions are social security, recreation, improving housing, living and sanitary conditions, cultural work, providing aid (maintenance) to those who need it, providing qualified consultation any issues, assistance in solving them.
The key to the success of the Union is the ongoing support of the administration, fruitful collaboration with all departments of the University and the students- government.
