The University encompasses the educational and scientific-industrial complex that includes Korsun - Shevchenko Pedagogical College, Uman Humanitarian Pedagogical College, Uman city Gymnasium named after Ivan Franko, Shevchenko Specialized Boarding School and Vocational School № 36 in Uman. A Pedagogical Lyceum offering education in Foreign Philology, Ukrainian Philology, Nature and Geography, Technologies and Pedagogy was also established.
There are business incubator and legal clinic aimed at creating a favorable environment for the implementation of business ideas and business projects, commercialization of research.
According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine "On additional measures for celebrating the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko" a new structural unit of the University was founded in 2013 - Kaniv Institute of Humanities (Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine as of June 12, 2013).
The University consists of the following educational and research institutes:
- Child Development Institute (Departments: Preschool and Speech Therapy Education, Primary Education, Arts and Pedagogics);
- Social and Economic Education Institute (Departments: Sociology and Psychology, Physical Training, Economics Department);
- Institute of Natural, Mathematical and Technological Education (Departments: Physics and Mathematics, Nature and Geography, Technology and Pedagogics);
- Philology and Social Sciences Institute (Departments: Ukrainian Philology, Foreign Languages, and History).
Main directions of activity: Bachelor and Master Degree programs in 9 branches of science, 24 specialties, 26 areas of training. Over 8000 full and part time students study at 12 Departments.
Since the 2012-2013 academic year the Preparatory Department for Foreign Citizens has begun training the foreign nationals in accredited specialties.
Optionally, the students can undergo the military training and obtain initial officer rank.
Human resources. The educational process in Pavlo Tychyna USPU is provided by the 39 Chairs. The teaching staff consists of 524 persons, including 83 Doctors, Professors, about 300 Candidates of Sciences, Associate Professors. Among them are three Academicians and three members of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, 1 Academician of the Academy of Construction and Architecture, 1 Academician of the Academy of Higher Education, 1 member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Material and technical facilities of the University includes 4 academic buildings, workshops, two student dormitories, agrobiostation, scientific library, modern reading rooms for students, faculty and graduate students, 3 language laboratories, two student cafeterias, a sports complex, free internet access available in 12 computer classrooms and dormitories.
The funds of the University Research Library consist of over 360,000 volumes, every year the library subscribes to over 300 titles of pedagogical, research, professional periodicals.
Research infrastructure of the University comprises 3 research centers of dual subordination (to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine), 18 research laboratories that cooperate with the branch laboratories of the research and scientific institutes of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, 7 regional scientific and methodical centers. There are Post-Graduate and Doctoral studies available.
The scientific schools headed by the prominent scientists - Academician Volodymyr Grygorovych Kuz, Professors Talat Nuredinovych Azizov, Leonid Abramovych Kipnis, Oleksandr Mykolayovych Kobernyk, Tetiana Volodymyrivna Kuznets, Mykhailo Tadeyovych Martynyuk, Natalia Semenivna Pobirchenko, Natalia Petrivna Syvachuk, are prospering.
The University issues five specialized editions of scientific papers approved by the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine.
The international activities. The University is an active participant in the European educational space. 37 cooperation agreements were signed with the foreign educational institutions. Cooperation with other universities of Poland, France, USA, Canada, Germany, Russia and Belarus is established. The main directions of international cooperation are joint training with foreign partners, organization of international conferences, symposiums, upgrading the qualification of the teaching staff in foreign educational institutions, participation in international projects.
There is the Institute of International Co-operation that combines 7 research and academic centers of cooperation with various countries. The University is a member of the "Erasmus Mundus", funded by the European Commission, and Co-coordinator of the "EMINENS" program that gives the teachers and the students an opportunity to study and upgrade their qualifications in the leading universities in Europe.
Extracurricular activities. The social and cultural structure of the University boasts a student club, sports club, a museum of the history of the institution. The "Pedagogical news” newspaper is issued and there is literary studio named after Mykola Bazhan, and the student theater. Nine artistic creative teams were awarded the honorary title of "People."
The students have the opportunity to improve their sports skills in athletic, basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis and rhythmic gymnastics clubs. They are often the winners of regional, interuniversity and international competitions; there are the members of the youth team of Ukraine among them.
The University is proud by the following athlets: Vasyl Shuptar - master of sports of international class, member of the national team of Ukraine in freestyle wrestling, bronze medalist of the XI Universiade; Victorya Dobrotvorska - master of sports of international class, member of the national team of Ukraine in rowing slalom, silver medalist of European Championship, multiple champion of Ukraine getting ready for the Olympic Games in Brazil; Diana Pryymak - master of sports of Ukraine in rowing, silver and a bronze medalist of Ukraine, Marina Panchokha - master of sports of Ukraine, member of the national team of Ukraine in freestyle wrestling, bronze medalist in the championship of Ukraine.
Awards. For significant progress in the training of teachers the University is awarded the honorable award by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. According to the "Zolota Fortuna" International Academic Rating of Popularity and Quality the University received a silver medal "For significant contribution into the training of qualified teachers for public education of Ukraine" and “For patriotism“(II degree).
The University is consistently ranked in the top 200 universities in Ukraine in the UNESCO's ranking "Top -200 of Ukraine". Last year the University was ranked on the 137 place leaving behind many well-known higher educational establishments. In the national ratings conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine the University was ranked the 4th among the pedagogical and humanitarian universities.
In 2013 the University won 1st place in the category "Universities of the III and IV accreditation levels” of the nationwide Review of work conditions and occupational safety in the educational institutions of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
The University activities are covered on the front pages of the national newspapers "Uriudoviy Kuryer", "Golos Ukrainy", "Osvita v Ukraini ", "Gazeta po Ukrainsky," "Osvita" weekly newspaper, videos are broadcasted on "Inter", "Ross" on local TV channels.
During the 2012-2013 academic year the University won the Grand Prix in the categories "Youth career guidance", "Leader of scientific and technological activities", "International Cooperation in Education and Science" thrice at international exhibitions and the "Quality of research publications" Certificate in terms of the Scopus international Scientometric database.
For long-term innovative educational activities of modernizing the education the University was awarded the honorary title "Leader of National Education."
The strategic goal of the University is to upgrade the staff potential, improve the technical facilities and methods of teaching, be responsive to labor market needs, enhance international cooperation. Ultimately, it is the "quality of education ".
Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University is the center of spirituality, science, and culture in the region. It successfully trains the professionals for national and foreign schools.
